Today we are starting off Ebbe Sweet Stories with Teresa and Dave and their amazing kids, Baron and Sydney Rose. Many of my stories begin with photography and end with friendship; this one was the other way around. I've known Teresa since we both lived in San Francisco over a decade ago, and as luck would have it, when she and Dave moved to New York a few months before Baron was born, their apartment ended up being two blocks from mine. Therefore, camera in hand, I have gotten to watch baby B grow up.
The above are photos from Baron's first birthday, in New York City in 2013.
The following year, their family moved again. Before they left we did a final NYC shoot to capture all of the details of Baron's daily life in the city, so that even as the memories faded, he would always be able to look back at the story of his babyhood in New York.
As luck would have it, Teresa, Dave, and Baron ended up in San Francisco - and coincidentally two blocks from my parents' home. (Not kidding. Can you believe?!) This past winter, their family welcomed baby girl Sydney Rose, and I had the great pleasure of shooting her newborn photos in their family's new home.
When doing newborn shoots with an older sibling, I always recommend that the older one either arrive late or leave early - that way, no one feels jealous that the baby is getting so much attention. B came home from camp mid-shoot, and was SO happy to see his sister! These photos consistently bring tears to my eyes. Getting to watch Baron grow up, first as the baby and then as a big brother, has been such an incredible joy.
After Sydney Rose's photos, Baron and I went outside to take a few photos of just him outside. B, what a pleasure it has been to watch you grow up!
